ACC/SEC Challenge Matchups Unveiled

Vanderbilt men and women to host doubleheader on Dec. 3

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — ESPN announced the matchups for the 2025 ACC/SEC Men’s and Women’s Basketball Challenges Thursday. The three-night event features 32 games pitting the premier conferences against one another on the hardwood.

Vanderbilt men’s and women’s basketball will both host matchups in year three of the ACC/SEC Challenge. The men will welcome SMU to Memorial Gymnasium while the women host Virginia in doubleheader action on Wednesday, Dec. 3.

On the men’s side, the meeting will be the 23rd all-time between the Commodores and Mustangs. Vanderbilt holds a 14-8 advantage in the all-time series. Vandy and SMU are meeting for the first time since December 2021, an 84-72 SMU victory in Dallas. The Dores and Mustangs have battled only twice this century with the other contest an overtime tilt in Memorial Gymnasium in 2020.

The women’s matchup will be the seventh all-time meeting between the Commodores and Cavaliers. The last matchup took place on Nov. 23, 2012, in San Juan, Puerto Rico, as part of the San Juan Shootout.  Virginia leads the series against Vanderbilt, 4-2, as the Cavaliers have won each of the last two meetings, including a 73-66 win in the San Juan Shootout. It will be the first time Vanderbilt has hosted Virginia since the 1995-96 campaign, where the Dores posted a 72-65 victory on Dec. 9, 1995. It will also be a rematch of an Elite Eight contest in the 1992 NCAA Tournament, in which the Cavaliers claimed a 70-58 victory to move on to the Final Four.
